Born in the late 1970s, Two Tone was more than just music – it was a cultural movement. Blending Jamaican ska and reggae rhythms with punk energy and attitude, it created a sound that was bold, upbeat and impossible not to dance to.
Driven by bands like The Specials, the movement stood for unity, diversity and breaking down barriers, all wrapped up in a soundtrack of punchy brass, offbeat guitar and driving basslines.
And then there’s the style…
Think sharp black-and-white suits, skinny ties, pork pie hats, braces and loafers – instantly recognisable and effortlessly cool. The iconic checkerboard look became a symbol of the era and still defines the scene today.
